The Age of Enlightenment

The Age of Enlightenment was a special time in Europe when people started asking big questions and thinking in new ways. It happened mostly in the 1700s. During this time, people believed in using their brains to understand the world around them. They wanted fair rules and freedom for everyone.

This time began after many amazing discoveries in science. Great thinkers like Galileo Galilei and Isaac Newton helped people see that the world could be understood through careful thinking and experiments. Coffee shops and books became places where people could share ideas.

Many important ideas we still have today came from the Enlightenment. People began to think about governments that listen to their people and allowing different religions. It was a time when people felt brave enough to question old traditions and think for themselves.

Key Thinkers

The Age of Enlightenment was inspired by the Scientific Revolution. Some of the big thinkers included Francis Bacon, René Descartes, John Locke, and Voltaire. One famous book from this time was the Encyclopédie. It was a huge book that tried to explain almost everything!

Why It Matters

The Enlightenment changed many parts of life. People started to think more about how governments should work and what rights people should have. Scientists did more experiments to learn about chemistry, physics, and biology. New science clubs popped up everywhere, sharing ideas and discoveries.

This was also a time when art and music grew a lot. Famous composers like Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart created beautiful music that people still enjoy today. Books became cheaper, so more people could learn and think about new ideas.

The Age of Enlightenment helped shape the world we live in today. It taught us the value of asking questions, thinking for ourselves, and treating everyone with respect.
