The Altai Mountains
The Altai Mountains are a grand and tall mountain range in Central Asia. They are where four countries meet: Russia, China, Mongolia, and Kazakhstan. These mountains are very special because important rivers like the Irtysh and Ob start their journey here.
The highest point in the Altai Mountains is called Belukha. It stands very tall, at 4,506 meters (about 14,783 feet) above sea level. The mountains are home to beautiful lakes and many different animals. You can find Siberian ibex, snow leopards, and many kinds of deer living in these mountains.
People have lived in the Altai Mountains for a very long time. They enjoy raising animals like sheep and horses, as well as hunting and farming. The name "Altai" means "gold" or "golden" in an old language, which tells us about the rich culture of the people who live there.
The Altai Mountains are also a special place protected by the world. It is called the Golden Mountains of Altai and is a World Heritage Site. This helps keep the beautiful lands, plants, and animals safe for everyone to enjoy.
