The Tall Andes Mountains
The Andes are the longest mountain range in the world! They stretch along the western edge of South America. These tall mountains go through seven countries: Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, and Venezuela.
The Andes have many high peaks. One famous mountain is Aconcagua in Argentina. It is very tall, almost 7,000 metres high! The Andes also have high volcanoes and special flat areas called plateaus.
People have lived near the Andes for thousands of years. The Inca Empire built big cities and roads in these mountains. Today, many people live in cities near the Andes, such as Bogotá, Santiago, and Lima. The mountains are good for growing crops like potatoes and coffee.
The Andes change the weather around them. Higher up, it gets colder, and snow can cover the mountains. The plants and animals here are special and found only in the Andes. You can see beautiful birds and cute animals like llamas and alpacas in these mountains.
