Apollo 11

Apollo 11 was a very important trip into space. It was the first time people landed on the Moon. This amazing journey happened in 1969. The astronauts on this mission were Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins, and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin. They flew a big rocket called the Saturn V from Florida.

The spacecraft had three main parts. Neil and Buzz landed on the Moon in a part called the lunar module. Michael stayed in orbit around the Moon in the command module. When Neil stepped onto the Moon, he said something very famous. They spent time walking on the Moon, collecting samples, and planting a flag. Then they returned safely to Earth.

People all around the world watched this mission on television. It showed that humans could go to the Moon and come back safely. President John F. Kennedy had set this goal many years before. The rocks they brought back helped scientists learn more about our Moon.

After the mission, the astronauts were celebrated as heroes. They visited many cities and countries, meeting people and sharing their story. Today, the command module Columbia is on display in a museum. The lunar module Eagle is still on the Moon, and pictures from space show where it landed.

Apollo 11 inspired many people to learn about space and science. It remains one of the greatest adventures in human history.
