All About Avocados
An avocado is a special kind of fruit that grows on a tree. It comes from the Americas, mostly from Mexico to Peru. People have enjoyed avocados for thousands of years!
Avocado trees love warm weather and grow very tall. Their leaves are long and green. The fruit of the avocado tree is big and creamy. It has one large seed inside. When ready to eat, the inside of the avocado is smooth and buttery, with a lovely golden-green color. The skin can be green, brown, purplish, or black.
Avocados are very nutritious. They have good fats that are healthy for your heart. People love to eat avocados in many ways. You can find them in salads, sandwiches, and a special Mexican dip called guacamole. In some places, avocados are cut open and eaten right from the fruit. Others enjoy them in dishes like avocado toast or even in sushi.
Today, avocados grow in warm places all around the world. Mexico grows the most avocados. They are picked before they are ripe and are made ready to eat after they are taken from the tree. No matter where you live, you might find avocados in your favorite meals!
