Welcome to Baltimore!

Baltimore is a big, busy city in the state of Maryland in the United States. It is the largest city in Maryland and the 30th largest city in the whole country! Lots of people live there—about 585,000 in 2020.

A Little History

Long ago, the land around Baltimore was home to native people. Later, people from England came and built a port to trade goods like tobacco with Europe. Baltimore grew fast and became very important.

During the War of 1812, a brave man named Francis Scott Key wrote a poem while watching a battle. That poem became the national anthem of the United States, called “The Star-Spangled Banner”.

Fun Things to Do

Baltimore has many cool places to visit! At the Inner Harbor, you can see boats, visit museums, and even watch dolphins at the National Aquarium. Don’t miss the famous Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine, where the flag inspired the national anthem.

Sports Lovers’ Paradise

Baltimore is home to two very popular sports teams. The Baltimore Orioles play baseball, and the Baltimore Ravens play football. Going to a game is a fun way to spend an afternoon!

Yummy Food

Baltimore is famous for its seafood, especially blue crabs. You can enjoy crab cakes and other tasty dishes at many restaurants around the city. The Lexington Market is a great place to try different foods from around the world.

Parks and Nature

Baltimore has lots of green spaces where you can play and relax. Patterson Park and Druid Hill Park are two big parks with walking paths, playgrounds, and even lakes. You can have fun while being close to nature!

Baltimore is a wonderful city with lots of history, fun activities, and delicious food. Whether you’re interested in sports, history, or just enjoying yummy meals, there’s something for everyone in Baltimore!
