Centre Court
Centre Court is a very famous tennis court at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club. People all around the world know it because it is where the big Wimbledon Championships are played every year. It is the main court and the most famous tennis court on the planet!
During the two weeks of the Wimbledon Championships, Centre Court is full of excited fans watching the players. There is a special area called the Royal Box where the British royal family and other important guests can sit and enjoy the matches.
In 2009, a special roof was added to Centre Court. Now, when it rains, the roof can close and the players can keep playing. This helps everyone enjoy the matches without getting wet. Besides Wimbledon, Centre Court also hosted tennis matches for the 2012 Summer Olympics together with the No. 1 Court and No. 2 Court.
Centre Court has a very important message above its door. It says, "If you can meet with triumph and disaster / And treat those two impostors just the same." These words come from a poem called If— by Rudyard Kipling.
