Chinese people and their families live in many places in the United States, especially in California and New York. They speak Chinese at home, and many children learn it in special weekend schools. This helps them stay connected to their family and culture.

There are different kinds of Chinese languages. Two big ones are Mandarin and Cantonese. Mandarin is becoming more common, especially because many people move from mainland China and Taiwan. Cantonese was very popular before, especially in California and New York.

In big cities like New York City, you can find neighborhoods called Chinatowns. These places have Chinese shops, restaurants, and signs. One famous Chinatown is in Manhattan, shown in the picture below.

Many people in the United States are learning Chinese as a new language in school. It is the seventh most studied foreign language. Learning Chinese helps people talk to more people around the world and understand a very old culture.
