Columbus Lighthouse

The Columbus Lighthouse is a very special building in Santo Domingo Este, Dominican Republic. It looks like a tall, shining lighthouse and helps us remember Christopher Columbus, the explorer who sailed to new places.

People started building this amazing monument in 1986. It was finished in 1992 to celebrate an important journey made 500 years earlier. The lighthouse stands very tall, with bright lights that make a cross shape in the sky.

Inside, the lighthouse is a museum with interesting things from many places, like a boat from Cuba and special jewelry. Every year on Columbus Day, people can visit a special glass case that holds remains thought to belong to Columbus. The building also has beautiful lights that can be seen far away, even from Puerto Rico.
