The Congolian Rainforests
The Congolian rainforests are huge, green forests in Central Africa. They grow where the Congo River and its smaller rivers flow. These forests are a special type called tropical moist broadleaf forests. They have thick trees and many plants.
These forests are very important. They are home to many animals and plants, some of which live only here. The Congolian rainforests are one of the largest tropical forests in the world, second only to the Amazon rainforest. They cover a big area across six countries: Cameroon, Gabon, Republic of the Congo, and parts of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The Congolian rainforests help our planet. They take in carbon and give us clean oxygen. Many animals live here, like the western lowland gorilla, chimpanzees, and African forest elephants. There are also many birds, fish, and plants that make this forest a special home for wildlife.
The forests change to drier areas with savannas and grasslands around them. They are a green belt over the basin of the Congo River region, helping both wildlife and nearby people.
