Welcome to Cusco!
Cusco is a beautiful city in Peru. It sits high up in the Andes Mountains, close to the Sacred Valley. Two lovely rivers, the Huatanay and Urubamba, flow nearby. Cusco is both the capital and the biggest city in its area.
Long ago, in the 1200s, Cusco became the capital of the Inca Empire. Today, many old Inca buildings still stand, showing us how smart and talented they were. In 1983, Cusco was named a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, meaning it is very special to the whole world.
Now, Cusco is a popular place for visitors. Every year, many tourists come to see amazing sites like Machu Picchu, one of the seven modern wonders of the world. Because of its rich history, the Constitution of Peru calls Cusco the Historical Capital of Peru.
The city is high up in the mountains, about 3,400 meters above sea level. Many people live there, and they enjoy its cool, sunny weather. Cusco’s history and beautiful buildings make it a wonderful place to explore and learn about the past.
