Don Quixote
Who Was Don Quixote?
Don Quixote is a very famous story from Spain. It was written by a man named Miguel de Cervantes a long time ago, in two parts, in 1605 and 1615. Many people think it is one of the best books ever written. It has been translated into many languages all around the world.
The story is about a man named Alonso Quijano who lived in a place called La Mancha. Alonso loved reading books about knights and adventures so much that he decided to become a knight-errant himself! He called himself Don Quixote de la Mancha.
Fun Adventures
Alonso picked a friendly farmer named Sancho Panza to be his squire, or helper. Together, they had many funny and imaginative adventures. Don Quixote often saw things that weren’t really there, like thinking windmills were big giants. Sancho Panza helped keep things fun and realistic.
Because of this wonderful story, many people still talk about Don Quixote today. The word quixotic, which means trying to do something that is very hard or impossible, comes from his name. The story has inspired many artists and writers for many years.
