El Greco grew up learning art in the special Post-Byzantine art style. Then he traveled to Venice and Rome, where he met famous artists like Tintoretto and Titian. In 1577, El Greco moved to Toledo, Spain, where he painted some of his most famous pictures.
El Greco’s paintings were very special. He used bright colors and made his people look tall and thin. Two of his well-known paintings are View of Toledo and Opening of the Fifth Seal. Even though some people at the time did not understand his style, many artists later loved his work.
