Fairbanks, Alaska

Fairbanks is a city in Alaska. It is the biggest city in the interior part of the state and has over 32,000 people living there. The city is very far north, just south of the Arctic Circle, which makes it one of the coldest places in the United States.

The city started in 1901 when a man named E. T. Barnette set up a trading post by the Chena River. Gold was found nearby, and this brought many people to the area. Because of this, Fairbanks grew quickly and became an official city in 1903.

Today, Fairbanks is known for its very cold winters. The city is home to the University of Alaska Fairbanks, which is the main campus of the University of Alaska system. Fairbanks also has an important airport called the Fairbanks International Airport. The city remains a center for education and industry in northern Alaska.
