Finland, also called the Republic of Finland, is a beautiful country in Northern Europe. It is part of a group called the Nordic countries. Finland shares borders with Sweden, Norway, and Russia. It also has coastlines along the Gulf of Bothnia and the Gulf of Finland.

The capital city of Finland is Helsinki, which is also the largest city. Finland has about 5.7 million people living there. The country is known for its many lakes—so many that Finland is often called “the land of a thousand lakes.” You can find forests, hills, and even some mountains there.

Finland has cold winters and warm summers. In the far north, the winters are very long and very cold. In the summer, the days are long with lots of sunlight. Finland is also home to interesting animals like the brown bear, grey wolf, and the whooper swan, which is the national bird.

People in Finland are known for being kind and fair. The country works hard to make sure everyone has good schools, healthcare, and a good quality of life. Finland is also famous for its love of reading—many people read books and newspapers.

Finland enjoys many fun activities. One very special tradition is the sauna. Almost every home has a sauna, and people often go to saunas to relax with friends and family. Other popular pastimes include hiking, fishing, skiing, and ice hockey, which is a very favorite sport.

Finland has a rich culture with interesting traditions, foods, and holidays. The country celebrates special days like Christmas and Midsummer with joy and togetherness. Finnish food often includes fish, potatoes, and berries, and coffee is a popular drink that people enjoy every day.

Finland is a wonderful place with beautiful nature, friendly people, and many fun things to do and see.
