Flushing Meadows–Corona Park
Flushing Meadows–Corona Park is a big, fun place to play and explore in Queens, New York City. It is one of the largest parks in the whole city! The park is next to important roads and water, like the Grand Central Parkway and Flushing Bay.
Long ago, the land was wet and full of rivers. Later, people used it for a very special event called the World's Fair in both 1939 and 1964. Today, the park still shows parts of those fun fairs.
Some of the cool things you can find in the park are the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, where the US Open tennis games happen, and Citi Field, where the New York Mets play baseball. You can also visit the New York Hall of Science, the Queens Museum, the Queens Zoo, and see the shiny Unisphere sculpture. The park is looked after by the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation.
The park is named after the nearby places called Flushing and Corona. Flushing reminds us of a town in the Netherlands and means cleaning with rushing water. Corona's name was added when the big fair happened in 1964.
