Gemini 11

Gemini 11 was a special space mission for NASA. It flew from September 12 to 15, 1966. Two brave astronauts, Pete Conrad and Dick Gordon, went on this trip around Earth.

One big goal of Gemini 11 was to meet up with a special vehicle called the Agena Target Vehicle. They connected with it just one hour and thirty-four minutes after they flew up! This helped scientists learn things that could help future trips to the Moon.

During the mission, the astronauts used the Agena’s rocket to fly very high above Earth. They went higher than any people had before! They also did something fun: they tied a long rope between their spacecraft and the Agena and spun around. This made a tiny bit of what feels like gravity.

Dick Gordon also did two spacewalks. In these spacewalks, he floated outside the spacecraft and took pictures of Earth, the clouds, and the stars.

Gemini 11 landed in the ocean near a ship called the USS Guam. The United States Navy helped bring the astronauts back safely.

Today, you can see the Gemini 11 spacecraft at the California Science Center in Los Angeles, California. It’s a great place to learn about this exciting space adventure!
