Who Was Guru Nanak?

Guru Nanak was a kind and wise teacher who lived a long time ago in India. He was born on April 15, 1469, in a village that is now called Nankana Sahib in Pakistan. People remember him because he started Sikhism, a way of thinking and living that teaches love and fairness.

What Did Guru Nanak Teach?

Guru Nanak traveled far and wide to share his messages. He taught that there is one God and that everyone should be treated equally, no matter who they are. He believed in being kind, honest, and helpful to others. His teachings are found in a special book called the Guru Granth Sahib.

Guru Nanak’s Important Writings

Guru Nanak wrote many beautiful poems and songs, called shabda. Some of his most famous writings are the Japji Sahib, the Asa di Var, and the Sidh Gosht. These writings are read and loved by many people even today.

Every year, people celebrate Guru Nanak’s birthday as Guru Nanak Gurpurab. It is a happy time when everyone comes together to honor his life and teachings. There are special meetings, songs, and stories shared to remember the good things he taught.

One special place is the Gurdwara Janam Asthan in Nankana Sahib, Pakistan. It marks the spot where Guru Nanak was born. People visit this place to learn more about his life and feel close to his spirit.
