Hanno, a Moon Crater

Hanno is a special spot on the Moon. It is an impact crater, which means it was made a long time ago when a piece of space rock hit the Moon.

You can find Hanno near the southeastern edge of a dark area called Mare Australe. Close by is another big crater named Pontécoulant.

Hanno was named after Hanno the Navigator, an explorer from ancient times. The crater’s edges are a little rough because it has been hit by many small space rocks. Inside, it is mostly flat with just a few tiny craters.
