Hindu Architecture

Hindu architecture is a special way of building that comes from India. People have been using these building ideas for a very long time to make temples, homes, and even whole towns. These ideas are written down in old books called texts, like the Vastu shastras and Shilpa Shastras.

The most famous buildings in Hindu architecture are the beautiful temples. These temples are made from stone and brick and sometimes even carved out of rock. They have tall towers and lovely carvings that tell stories from Hindu teachings. Some of these temples are very old, going back to the time of the Gupta Empire.

Hindu texts also give advice on how to build homes, markets, and gardens. They suggest placing villages and towns near rivers for water and on land that slopes east so people can see the sunrise. These towns often have streets that point to the main directions, with a temple or meeting place in the middle.

In Indonesia, people also built beautiful Hindu temples. In Java, they are called Candi, and in Bali, they are called Pura. These temples are special places for people to worship, just like in India.

Hindu architecture shows how people used to build and design their world in a way that mixed looks, use, and their beliefs. The buildings tell us about the history and culture of many places.
