The House of Lords

The House of Lords is one part of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It meets in a big building called the Palace of Westminster in London, England. People there help check new laws and ask questions about the government.

Most people in the House of Lords are appointed for life. This means they stay there as long as they live. Some of these members are important leaders from the Church of England, called Lords Spiritual. Together, they talk about and help make laws.

The House of Lords cannot stop a law, but it can wait a little before the law is finished. This gives members time to look closely at the law and suggest changes. The House of Lords is special because it has more members than any other group like it in the world. Today, it has 752 members.

Long ago, the House of Lords started as a group that helped the king. Over time, it grew to include church leaders and noble people. Today, it looks different, but it still plays an important role in helping the government.

The House of Lords has many members, and they sit in red benches in a beautiful room. They talk about laws and help make sure everything is just right. Some people think the House of Lords needs to change, but for now, it keeps working to help the United Kingdom.
