The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is the friendly group that takes care of the Olympic Games. It started in 1894 by a man named Pierre de Coubertin and a friend named Demetrios Vikelas. The IOC is based in Lausanne, Switzerland.

The IOC works very hard to organize three big kinds of Olympics: the Summer Olympics, the Winter Olympics, and the Youth Olympics. These games happen every four years and bring together athletes from all around the world to compete in many sports.

The IOC also helps many countries by working with their own Olympic groups, called National Olympic Committees (NOCs). As of 2020, the IOC recognized 206 NOCs from many countries. Since 2025, a wonderful woman named Kirsty Coventry has been the leader of the IOC.

The IOC’s big dream is to spread the joy of sports everywhere. It makes sure games are fair and fun for everyone. The IOC also cares for the environment and helps cities host the Olympics in a way that is good for nature.

The IOC promises to always support the Olympic spirit. Its members agree to follow fair rules and work together to make the Olympics special for all athletes and fans.
