Jack Northrop

Jack Northrop was an American who loved making airplanes. He was born in Newark, New Jersey in 1895 and grew up in Santa Barbara, California.

Jack started working with airplanes in 1916. He helped design many famous planes, like the Lockheed Vega. This airplane was flown by famous pilots such as Amelia Earhart.

In 1932, Jack started his own company called the Northrop Corporation in El Segundo, California. He loved a special airplane design called the flying wing. Even though his big flying wing plane was not made, his ideas helped later airplanes.

Jack received many awards for his work. He was added to special halls of fame for aviation and inventing. An airport in Hawthorne, California is named after him: Jack Northrop Field Hawthorne Municipal Airport.
