Johann van Beethoven

Johann van Beethoven was a musician and singer from Germany. He worked at the court of the Archbishop of Cologne in a city called Bonn. He played many instruments, like the violin, zither, harpsichord, and clavichord.

Johann married Maria Magdalena Keverich, and they had seven children. Only three grew up: Ludwig, Kaspar Anton Karl, and Nikolaus Johann. Ludwig became a very famous composer. Johann loved music and helped teach Ludwig to play when he was young.

People remember Johann van Beethoven because he was the father of the great composer Ludwig van Beethoven. Ludwig later moved to Vienna to study with another famous musician, Joseph Haydn. Johann passed away in 1792, not long after Ludwig began his big musical journey.
