Leopard
Leopards are beautiful big cats with soft fur that can be pale yellow or dark golden. They have dark spots grouped in patterns called rosettes, which help them hide in places with lots of plants and shadows. Their spots are unique, like fingerprints in humans.
Leopards live in many parts of Africa and Asia. They can be found in places like savannas, rainforests, grasslands, and woodlands. Some leopards even live close to people if they have food and hiding spots. They are very good climbers and can run very fast.
Leopards are usually shy and like to be alone. They only come together during mating season. Females stay close to their young even after the cubs can take care of themselves. Leopards make many sounds, like growls and meows.
These cats mainly hunt at night and like to eat medium-sized animals. They can climb trees very well and often put their food up in a tree to keep it safe. Leopards can live up to 17 years in the wild.
Leopards are important in many stories and traditions around the world. In Greek mythology, the god Dionysus is often shown wearing leopard skin. The leopard is also a popular design in clothing and symbols today.
Leopards face some challenges because people sometimes take away their homes. But many people are working hard to help leopards live where humans also live. In places like the Russian Caucasus, some leopards were raised in special areas and then released into the wild.
Leopards appear in many interesting ways in our world, from stories to art and even in some special events long ago.
