Louis the Pious

Louis the Pious was a kind and smart leader many years ago. He was born on April 16, 778, in a time when his father, Charlemagne, ruled a big part of Europe. Louis grew up learning how to be a good king. When he was just a little boy, he became the King of Aquitaine, a place in the southwest of France.

Louis helped keep his father’s empire safe and strong. He learned from the best and tried to make good choices for his people. After Charlemagne passed away in 814, Louis became the ruler of all the Franks. He wanted to share his job with his sons so they could all help lead together.

Even though he faced some hard times with his family, Louis always worked hard to keep peace. He liked to follow rules that helped people live better lives. Louis passed away on June 20, 840, but he is remembered for trying to keep his big empire together and fair for everyone.
