Welcome to Madrid!

Madrid is the capital city of Spain. It is a busy city with lots of people and many fun things to see and do. Madrid sits in the middle of Spain, close to the River Manzanares.

A Busy City

Madrid is very important. It is where the King of Spain lives and where big decisions for the country are made. Many people work in Madrid, and it is a place where money and business happen. The city is also famous for its art. You can visit wonderful museums like the Prado Museum, the Reina Sofía Museum, and the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum.

Fun and Games

Madrid loves sports, especially football. Two big teams, Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid, play in the city. People cheer for them at big stadiums. Madrid also has exciting parks, like El Retiro, where you can walk, play, and enjoy nature.

tasty Food

Madrid has delicious food from all over Spain. One popular dish is cocido madrileño, a tasty chickpea stew. You might also try callos a la madrileña, made from cattle tripes, or fried squid in sandwiches. Don’t forget to try patatas bravas—potatoes with spicy sauce!

Traveling Around

Getting around Madrid is easy. The city has many buses, trains, and subways. The subway, called the Metro, is one of the biggest in Europe with many lines and stations. There are also special buses that run at night and shuttles to the airport. Madrid-Barajas Airport is very busy and welcomes travelers from all over the world.

Madrid is a wonderful place to visit or live. It has history, art, sports, and tasty food—all in one busy, exciting city!
