What is Manga?

Since the 1950s, manga have become very important in Japan’s publishing world. Today, manga are popular everywhere, with big fans in places like North America and France. Some manga are even turned into animated shows or movies!

Manga began as old scrolls called emakimono a long time ago. During the Edo period, special books helped shape what we now call manga. Famous manga artists like Osamu Tezuka created wonderful stories that inspired many others.

In Japan, there are special places called manga cafés where people can read manga while enjoying a warm cup of coffee. The Kyoto International Manga Museum is a fun place to learn more about manga history.

Today, many people read manga on their computers and smartphones. Websites like Pixiv and Twitter let artists share their work with fans all over the world. Digital manga are very popular now!
