Matthew Boulton
Matthew Boulton was a clever businessman and inventor from Birmingham in England. He lived from 1728 to 1809. People remember him for his amazing work with James Watt, who made better steam engines.
Boulton and Watt worked together to make steam engines that helped factories run faster. These engines changed how people made things and helped build big factories.
Boulton also made special coins. One famous coin was called the “cartwheel” penny. It was big and hard to copy, so people trusted it.
Boulton was part of a smart group called the Lunar Society. This group shared ideas and helped start the Industrial Revolution. They met often and talked about new inventions.
Today, Boulton’s picture appears on a British banknote with James Watt. Birmingham has many places that remember him, like a museum in his old home, Soho House. People there learn about his life and work.
