The Morrison Formation

The Morrison Formation is a special layer of rock found in many western states of the United States. It is famous because many dinosaur fossils come from here. These rocks remind us of old rivers and floodplains from millions of years ago.

The rocks of the Morrison Formation are made of different types, like mudstone, sandstone, siltstone, and limestone. They can be gray, green, or red. Most fossils are found in the green siltstone and lower sandstone parts.

This rock layer is mainly in Wyoming and Colorado, but it stretches into many other states. These states include Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Arizona, Utah, and Idaho. It was named after the town of Morrison, Colorado.

People love the Morrison Formation because it helps us learn about dinosaurs and ancient life. Many scientists visit these places to study the rocks and fossils. It is a window into a time long ago when dinosaurs roamed the Earth.
