The Moscow Mathematical Papyrus

The Moscow Mathematical Papyrus is an old paper from ancient Egypt. It is full of fun math puzzles! People discovered it a long time ago in the city of Thebes. Now, you can see it in a big museum called the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts in Moscow.

This special paper has many math problems on it. Some are about shapes, like finding the size of a round ball or a pyramid with a cut-off top. Others are about everyday things, like how many shoes a shoe maker can make or how much bread they can bake from grain. These puzzles show how clever people were long ago!

One cool puzzle asks how to find the space inside a pyramid that has square tops and bottoms of different sizes. The people of ancient Egypt figured this out with smart steps, and their answer is the same as what we know today. The Moscow Mathematical Papyrus helps us learn about math from a very old time.
