Portrait of Mozi, an ancient Chinese philosopher.

Mozi

Mozi, also called Mo Di, was a wise thinker from very old China. He lived during a time when many places were not getting along well. Mozi had his own special way of thinking called Mohism. It was different from another famous way of thinking called Confucianism.

Mozi was born in a place now known as Tengzhou. He believed that everyone should care for each other, not just family and friends. He thought good leaders should be kind and fair to make life better for all people.

Mozi also believed in a higher power called Heaven. He thought Heaven wanted people to love one another and live simply. He taught that wasting things was not good. Instead, he wanted people to use resources to help everyone.

Today, people still read about Mozi’s ideas. His book, also called Mozi, shares many of his thoughts. Even though not all of his writings remain, his belief in fairness and helping others continues to be valued by many.
