Natural gas is a special kind of fuel that we find deep in the ground. It is made mostly of something called methane, and it comes from old plants and tiny sea creatures that changed over millions of years. We can burn natural gas to give us heat and electricity.

People add special smells to natural gas so we can know if there is a leak. The gas can travel through very big pipes to our homes. We can also change it into a liquid to make it easier to move.

Long ago, people in ancient Greece saw gas coming out of Mount Chimaera and thought it was a fire-breathing monster. In ancient China, they used gas from wells to light fires. Today, we get natural gas from places near where we also find oil and coal.

Natural gas helps us stay warm and power our lights, but we must use it carefully to help our planet.
