The Nazi Party
The Nazi Party, also called the National Socialist German Workers' Party, was a political group in Germany. It started in 1920 and grew from small groups after World War I. The party wanted to make Germany strong and special, but its ideas hurt many people.
Adolf Hitler became the leader of the Nazi Party in 1921. In 1933, he became the leader of Germany and started a time called the Third Reich. After World War II ended in 1945, the Nazi Party was stopped, and many of its leaders faced consequences for their actions.
The Nazi Party used symbols like the swastika and colors like red and black. They had special groups, such as the Hitler Youth for young boys and the League of German Girls for young girls, to spread their ideas.
Today, symbols of the Nazi Party are not allowed in many places to remind us of the importance of remembering difficult times in history. The story of the Nazi Party helps us understand why it is important to treat everyone with kindness and respect, no matter where they are from or who they are.
The Nazi Party began in Munich, Germany, and grew from small groups near the end of World War I. Anton Drexler, a strong German nationalist, helped start the group. Adolf Hitler joined in 1919 and quickly became a key leader. He helped the party grow by giving speeches and organizing events. In 1920, the party changed its name to the National Socialist German Workers' Party, or Nazi Party.
The Nazi Party had many members from different backgrounds, but most were from the middle class. By 1933, it had over 2 million members, and by 1945, it reached about 8 million people—around 10% of Germany’s population at the time. Many people in the military also joined the party after World War II began.
The party used special symbols and colors to show their ideas. One main symbol was the swastika, a right-facing shape. The party’s colors were red and black. They also used a special design with a centered swastika for their party flag. Later, this flag became an important symbol for Germany. Another symbol they used was the German eagle, placed on top of a swastika inside oak leaves.
