The Olympic Games

The Olympic Games are the world’s biggest sports events! Athletes from over 200 countries come together every four years to compete in summer and winter sports. The Games started long ago in a place called Olympia, Greece, and today they happen in different cities around the world.

Fun Traditions

The Olympics have special traditions that make them exciting. One is the Olympic flag with five rings representing the unity of continents: Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe, and Oceania. There is also the Olympic flame, which is lit in Greece and carried by runners to the host city during the torch relay. Winners of the Games receive gold, silver, or bronze medals for their amazing performances.

Why People Love the Olympics

The Olympics are special because they bring people together from all over the world. Athletes work hard for years to compete, and the Games are a chance for them to show their skills. Cities that host the Olympics get to share their culture and welcome visitors from everywhere. The Olympics remind us that sports can build friendship and peace between nations.

A Little History

The ancient Olympics began in Olympia, Greece over 2,000 years ago to honor the god Zeus. People competed in running, wrestling, and other fun events. The modern Olympics started in Athens in 1896, thanks to a man named Baron Pierre de Coubertin. Since then, the Games have grown bigger and better, with new sports added and more countries joining in the fun.

The Olympics are a wonderful way for everyone to celebrate sports, teamwork, and friendship!
