What is a Piano?
A piano is a special musical instrument that makes beautiful sounds when you press its keys. When you press a key, tiny hammers inside hit strings, and this makes music. Most pianos today have 88 keys that let musicians play many different notes.
Two Main Kinds of Pianos
There are two main types of pianos: the grand piano and the upright piano. Grand pianos are big and give a very nice sound, so they are often used for big performances. Upright pianos are smaller and easier to keep in homes or schools, so many families have them.
Where Pianos are Used
Pianos are used in many kinds of music, like classical and jazz. They can be played alone, with a singer, or in a group. Because pianos can play many notes and change loudness, they are very useful for musicians. Many people love to play the piano because it helps them learn music and make new songs.
A Little Piano History
The piano was invented around 1700 by Bartolomeo Cristofori in Italy. He made a piano that could play soft or loud sounds by pressing the keys harder or softer. Over time, pianos got bigger, louder, and could play more notes. Today, pianos look much like they did in the 1800s, but they keep getting better.
