Plesiosaurs

Plesiosaurs were amazing sea creatures that lived long, long ago. They swam in the oceans when dinosaurs roamed the land. These reptiles were not dinosaurs, but they lived at the same time.

Plesiosaurs had a wide, flat body and four strong flippers. They used their flippers to glide through the water like boats. Some plesiosaurs had very long necks, while others had short, strong necks. Both types were great swimmers.

These creatures lived in oceans all around the world. Scientists have found plesosaur fossils in many places, from Norway to Argentina and even Antarctica. They first appeared about 203 million years ago and lived until about 66 million years ago.

Many people think of plesiosaurs when they hear stories about sea monsters. For example, the famous tale of the Loch Ness Monster often describes a creature that looks like a plesiosaur. But scientists know that plesiosaurs are long gone. They love learning about these fascinating ancient swimmers and their adventures in the ancient seas.
