Poland is a beautiful country in Central Europe. It has many forests, lakes, and mountains. The people of Poland are friendly and proud of their traditions.
Where is Poland?
Poland is surrounded by many countries. To the north, it touches the Baltic Sea. To the east, it borders Belarus and Ukraine. To the south, it meets Slovakia and the Czech Republic. To the west, it shares a border with Germany. Poland has a cool climate with warm summers and cold winters.
Cities and Places
The capital city of Poland is Warsaw. It is a big city with many museums and parks. Other important cities are Kraków, Wrocław, and Gdańsk. Kraków has a famous old town that looks like it did hundreds of years ago. Gdańsk is a port city on the Baltic Sea. Poland also has beautiful mountains in the south and sandy beaches in the north.
Polish Life Today
Poland is part of the European Union. People in Poland enjoy good schools and hospitals. Many families live in houses with gardens. Poland has many festivals and holidays. One special holiday is Christmas Eve, called Wigilia. Families gather for a big dinner when the first star appears in the sky.
Food and Fun
Polish food is tasty and hearty. Popular dishes include pierogi, which are dumplings filled with cheese or potatoes, and kielbasa, a type of sausage. People also enjoy bigos, a soup made with cabbage and meat. For dessert, sernik is a delicious cheesecake.
Poland loves sports. Many people watch football (soccer). The Polish volleyball team is one of the best in the world. Young people also enjoy playing basketball and tennis. In the summer, families often go to the lakes for swimming and boating.
Poland has a rich history, and you can still see old castles and churches. One famous place is Malbork Castle, the largest castle in the world! Poland is a wonderful place to explore, with something for everyone to enjoy.
