Pope Leo III

Pope Leo III was an important leader in the city of Rome. He was the bishop of Rome and helped take care of many people there for more than 20 years.

Leo III became a priest because of the help of another important leader named Pope Adrian I. He was chosen to be the pope on a special day in December, right after Pope Adrian I was buried.

A very famous king named Charlemagne became a good friend and helper to Pope Leo III. Leo asked Charlemagne for support, and Charlemagne sent treasures and kind messages back. Together, they worked to help churches and charities in Rome.

On a big holiday called Christmas Day in the year 800, Pope Leo III helped make Charlemagne the new emperor. This made some people in Constantinople unhappy, but they were busy with their own matters.

Pope Leo III passed away in the year 816. He was remembered as a kind and important leader. Later, he was honored as a saint by another pope named Clement X.
