President of Ireland
The president of Ireland is the country's leader. This important job was created in 1937. The president lives in a big house called Áras an Uachtaráin in Phoenix Park in Dublin.
People in Ireland vote for the president every seven years. The president can serve up to two terms. The current president is Catherine Connolly, who began her job in November 2025. She is the tenth person to be president and the third woman president. Before her, Mary Robinson and Mary McAleese were presidents.
The president's job is mostly to represent Ireland to the world. They also have some important powers, like appointing the government and signing laws. Many people see the president as a symbol of Ireland and its values.
Presidents help make sure people's rights are protected. They also support charities and important causes. The president travels around the world to meet other leaders and make friends for Ireland.
The president has a special home and office with helpers. There are also security guards to keep the president safe. When a new president starts, there is a special ceremony with many important people.
