The Somali People
Somalis are a big group of people who live mainly in the Somali Peninsula. They are one of the largest groups in Africa. Most Somalis speak the Somali language, which is part of a big family of languages called Afroasiatic.
Most Somalis believe in Sunni Muslim teachings. They live in many places, but most are in Somalia. You can also find Somali people in Ethiopia, Kenya, and Djibouti. Some Somalis live far away, in places like the Middle East, North America, and Western Europe.
A Rich History
Somalis have a very old history. They came from the Horn of Africa a long time ago. Ancient pictures drawn on rocks show their early life with animals and people. Long ago, Somali traders were very important. They sold valuable things like frankincense, myrrh, and spices to faraway places.
Family and Culture
Somali people often belong to groups called clans. These clans are like big families that share ancestors. Clans help keep Somali traditions strong. Music, stories, and poetry are very important in Somali culture. Traditional clothes are also special, with men often wearing a wrap-around garment and women wearing beautiful flowing dresses.
Somali Today
Today, Somalis are proud of their history and culture. They live in many parts of the world but always keep their traditions close. Somali people are known for being kind and strong, and they have a rich history that continues to grow.
