Welcome to Stockholm!

Stockholm is the capital city of Sweden. It is a special place where about one million people live. The city sits on many islands where a big lake called Lake Mälaren meets the Baltic Sea. Stockholm is very important because it is where the Swedish government works and where many big events happen.

A City With History

People have lived in the Stockholm area since very old times, even from the Stone Age. The city itself was started in 1252 by a leader named Birger Jarl. Today, Stockholm is a mix of old and new. You can walk through streets that look like they did hundreds of years ago in the Old Town, called Gamla Stan. There are also modern buildings and many places to learn, like the Karolinska Institutet, a top school for medicine.

Fun Things to See and Do

Stockholm is full of interesting places! One of the most famous is the Stockholm Palace, where the Swedish monarch lives. Another cool spot is the Vasa Museum, which has a big ship saved from long ago. The city also has many parks and green spaces to explore. In the summer, you can enjoy long days with up to 18 hours of sunlight!

Getting Around

Stockholm is easy to travel around. The city has a famous subway system called the Stockholm Metro with trains in different colors. There are also buses, ferries, and even bike paths. Big airports like Stockholm Arlanda Airport make it simple for visitors to arrive and explore the city.
