Welcome to Tokyo!

Tokyo is a big, busy city in Japan. It is the capital and has over 14 million people living there! That means lots of friends and fun places to explore.

Tokyo is on the coast of Tokyo Bay, in a place called the Kantō region on the island of Honshu. It is very important because it is where the Japanese government and the Emperor of Japan work.

A City With a Long History

Tokyo was once called Edo. It became really important in 1603 and grew from a small village into a huge city. In 1868, it became the capital and was renamed Tokyo, which means 'Eastern Capital'.

Fun Places in Tokyo

Tokyo has many exciting places to visit! You can see tall buildings like the Tokyo Skytree, which is the tallest tower in the world. There are also big parks like Ueno Park where you can see cherry blossoms and visit Ueno Zoo.

Trains and Travel

Tokyo has many trains, and they are very clean and fast. One of the busiest train stations in the world is Shinjuku Station. There are also two big airports: Haneda Airport and Narita International Airport.
