United States Central Command
The United States Central Command (also called CENTCOM) is one of the big groups that help keep things safe for the United States. It was started in 1983 to watch over important places.
CENTCOM looks after many countries in the Middle East, like Egypt, and parts of Central Asia and South Asia. The main office is at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida. There is also a smaller office in Qatar.
Right now, the leader of CENTCOM is Admiral Brad Cooper from the U.S. Navy. He started his job on August 8, 2025.
CENTCOM works with many different teams and countries to help keep the area peaceful and safe. It has helped in many important events over the years, like keeping oil paths open and supporting friends after big storms.
Two leaders of CENTCOM even became very important leaders in the United States! James Mattis and Lloyd Austin both later became the United States Secretary of Defense.
CENTCOM has many jobs, like talking to people, planning, and training. It works with teams from the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines to make sure everything runs smoothly.
The command has been led by many strong leaders from different parts of the military. Some of them even became the top leader of all the U.S. military teams!
