The Vince Lombardi Trophy is a special prize given each year to the winning team of the Super Bowl. The Super Bowl is the biggest game in the National Football League. The trophy is named after Vince Lombardi, a great coach who led the Green Bay Packers to win the first two Super Bowls.
The idea for the trophy started in 1966. A man named Oscar Riedner drew the design on a napkin. The first trophy was made by a company called Tiffany & Co. in Newark, New Jersey. Now, new trophies are made each year for the winners to keep forever.
The trophy looks like a football on a stand. It is made of sterling silver and has the words "Vince Lombardi Trophy" on it. The winning team's name, the date, and where the game was played are added later. Teams like the New England Patriots and the Pittsburgh Steelers have won the trophy many times.
Since 1996, the trophy is given to the winners right on the football field. A special guest helps give it to the team. The team's owner, coach, and best players get to hold the trophy. It is a happy moment for everyone who played in the game.
