White Rhinoceros

The white rhinoceros, also called the white rhino, is one of the biggest animals on Earth. It has a wide mouth made just for eating grass. There are two types: the southern white rhinoceros and the northern white rhinoceros.

White rhinos live in Africa. The southern white rhino is safer, with many living in South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, and Zimbabwe. The northern white rhino is in big trouble, with only a few left.

These big animals can run very fast—up to 40 miles per hour! They spend much of their day eating grass and playing in mud to stay cool.

Scientists work hard to help protect white rhinos. Zoos and wildlife parks care for many southern white rhinos, letting them have babies and live safely. For the northern white rhino, scientists use special lab tools to try to save the species.
