History

Landsberg Double Chapel

The oldest signs of people living in what is now Landsberg go back to ancient times. Landsberg was first written about in a document from the year 961. Over the centuries, Landsberg Castle became an important place. It was home to leaders known as the Margraves of Landsberg.

The town grew around a church and was given special rights in 1579. Sadly, much of the castle has disappeared over time. During big wars, Landsberg faced hard times, but some important buildings still stand today.

Coat of arms

Landsberg has a special symbol called a coat of arms, known as the "Landsberg Pales." This design first appeared in the late 1200s and was used by local rulers from an old family called the Wettins. The blue Landsberg Pales can also be seen on the coats of arms of many towns and cities in Central Germany, like Chemnitz, Dresden, and Leipzig.
