Reagan era
Adapted from Wikipedia · Adventurer experience
The Reagan era refers to a time in United States history when President Ronald Reagan led the country. This period was mostly during the 1980s and early 1990s. Many people think this time was important because it showed a big shift toward conservative ideas in how the country was run.
Reagan changed many parts of government. He believed in cutting taxes and spending less on some government programs, but spending more on defense. During his time in office, important laws were passed, such as the Economic Recovery Tax Act of 1981. Even after Reagan left office, his ideas kept influencing leaders like George H. W. Bush and Bill Clinton.
Many conservatives liked Reagan's policies and still talk about them today. Some liberals had mixed feelings. But almost everyone agrees that Reagan changed America during his time as president. One later leader, Barack Obama, said Reagan changed America in a big way because the country was ready for new ideas about government.
Dates
Most historians start talking about the Reagan era in 1980, when Ronald Reagan was elected president. They often look back to the 1970s to understand why this time began, because the United States had many challenges then.
The term "Reagan era" usually means Reagan's time as president, but it can also include later years. Some people think the time of George H. W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush were also part of this era. There is also discussion about whether the election of Barack Obama marked the end of the Reagan era, as his policies were quite different. The election of Donald Trump in 2016 has led to debates about whether it continued the Reagan era or started something new in American politics.

The Reagan era began in the late 1970s. Big events like the Watergate scandal, the assassination of John F. Kennedy, and the Vietnam War made many Americans feel far from their leaders. During this time, many people moved from cities to suburbs. This created a new group of voters.
Ronald Reagan used his charm and strong speaking skills to share conservative ideas. He first tried to become president in 1976 but lost to Gerald Ford. In 1980, Reagan won the Republican nomination and defeated President Jimmy Carter. His promises of smaller government and lower taxes helped him win many votes. He became a major leader for conservatives.

When Ronald Reagan became president, he wanted to make big changes to help the United States. He wanted to make the military stronger, cut taxes, and spend less on some government programs. Reagan believed that by giving people and businesses more freedom, the economy would grow and create more jobs.
Reagan’s ideas helped the economy get better after a difficult time in the early 1980s. He was very popular and was re-elected in 1984. Later, he worked with leaders from other countries to make the world safer and appointed judges who shared his views on important issues. His vice president, George H.W. Bush, continued some of his work after Reagan left office.
Popular culture
Tom Clancy wrote three popular books when President Ronald Reagan was in office: The Hunt for Red October in 1984, Red Storm Rising in 1986, and The Cardinal of the Kremlin in 1988. These books showed the strong feelings of that time about the Cold War, with the Soviet Union described as an evil empire. They also showed pride in American values and technology.
Later artists remembered this time too. Kendrick Lamar wrote a song called "Ronald Reagan Era" for his 2011 album Section.80. Killer Mike wrote a song named "Reagan" for his 2012 album R.A.P. Music. Reagan even appeared as a character in comic books like The Dark Knight Returns from 1986 and Legends from 1986–87.
International
Many experts connect the Reagan era with the Thatcher era in Britain. In the 1970s, the price of oil rose sharply. Because of this, many countries in Europe and North America began to change how they handled their economies. This change led to new ways for governments and people to work together.
Historiography
Historians study the time period called the Reagan era, which many think changed the United States a lot. Some say this era ended in the early 2000s, especially after Barack Obama was elected. Changes in society, like more people going to college and new ideas about families, helped end this era. These changes included new views on divorce, single parenting, and cohabitation, as well as growth in gay rights and people moving from Asia and Latin America.
