The University of Cincinnati (UC or Cincinnati, informally Cincy) is a public research university in Cincinnati, Ohio, United States. It was founded in 1819 and has many students, making it one of the larger schools in Ohio. It is part of the University System of Ohio. The university’s main campus and medical buildings are in the Heights and Corryville areas, with smaller campuses in Batavia and Blue Ash, Ohio.
The university has many colleges, with programs in architecture, business, education, engineering, humanities, the sciences, law, music, and medicine. The medical college has a leading teaching hospital and research labs. UC was also the first university to use a co-operative education (co-op) model.
The university is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and is known for its research. UC's sports teams are called the Cincinnati Bearcats and compete in the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I as part of the Big 12 Conference.
History
In 1819, Cincinnati College and the Medical College of Ohio were founded in Cincinnati. A kind person named Daniel Drake helped start the Medical College of Ohio. Another person, William Lytle, gave land and money for Cincinnati College. The college closed for a short time but opened again later.
The University of Cincinnati was officially created in 1870. Over time, it grew by adding new schools such as law, medicine, and pharmacy. In the 1960s, it added a music conservatory. Today, the university is one of the largest in Ohio and keeps growing to serve its students and the community.
Campuses
The Uptown campus has three parts: West, Medical, and Victory Parkway. The West campus is the main one. It has 62 buildings on 137 acres (0.55 km2) in the Heights neighborhood of Cincinnati. The university moved here in 1893. Most undergraduate colleges are on the main campus, except for some at the University of Cincinnati Academic Health Center on the medical campus. The medical campus has nineteen buildings on 57 acres in the Corryville neighborhood. It includes important colleges and hospitals such as Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.
The Victory Parkway campus is about 3 miles from the main campus. It used to be home to the College of Applied Science. It still offers some classes and has a shuttle service to the main campus. The campus has buildings designed by famous architects. Off-campus places include the Cincinnati Observatory and other research centers.
The university also has regional campuses such as Blue Ash College and Clermont College. These offer associate's and bachelor's programs. UC Online provides over 120 programs online. The university works on sustainability with recycling programs, energy-saving measures, and LEED certified buildings.

Academics
The University of Cincinnati is a school where students can learn many things. Most students who apply get in. Those who join usually did well in high school.
The university has 14 colleges. Some of these are for Arts and Sciences, Business, Engineering, Law, and Medicine. Students can join special programs that mix schoolwork with jobs. This idea started in 1906. There is also a special program for top students who do extra projects.

Research
The University of Cincinnati is one of the top research universities in the United States. It focuses strongly on research and development. In 2018, the university spent around $480 million on research projects.
Libraries
The university has many libraries to help students and teachers find information. There are 13 libraries in 11 different buildings. They hold more than 4 million books and many magazines. Some important libraries include the Walter C. Langsam Library, the Donald C. Harrison Health Sciences Library, and the Robert A. Deshon and Karl J. Schlachter Library for Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning.
Student life
The University of Cincinnati has many ways for students to live and get involved. About 6,500 students live in ten residence halls on campus. These halls have different kinds of rooms, like traditional rooms and suite-style rooms. Many first-year students live on campus. There are also special housing options for students studying science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).
The university has programs to help new students adjust to college life. Learning communities group students together based on their major, so they take some classes with the same group of people. There are also over 550 student groups and clubs to join. These groups cover many topics, like academics, sports, and cultures. The university has a long history of fraternities and sororities, and many students join these groups.
Students can also enjoy media made by their peers. There is a student newspaper called The News Record, a radio station named Bearcast, and a television station called UCast. Each year, the university holds a film festival where students and professionals share their work.

Athletics

The University of Cincinnati has sports teams called the Bearcats. They play in 19 different sports. Since 2023, they have been part of the Big 12 Conference. Some well-known athletes from the university are Sandy Koufax, Oscar Robertson, and Travis Kelce.
The university has won many important prizes in sports. The men’s basketball team won in 1961 and 1962. The dance team has also done very well, winning many national prizes and even competing for the United States in world dance competitions. The university has many places for its sports teams to play, including Nippert Stadium for football and Fifth Third Arena for basketball.
