The national flag of Jordan was officially adopted on 16 April 1928. It is based on the flag used during the 1916 Arab Revolt against the Ottoman Empire in World War I. The flag has three horizontal bands of black, white, and green, connected by a red chevron.

The colors of the flag are known as the pan-Arab colors. The black band represents the Abbasid caliphate, the white band stands for the Umayyad caliphate, and the green band symbolizes either the Fatimid or Rashidun caliphates. The red chevron on the flag represents the Hashemite dynasty and reminds people of the brave actions during the Arab Revolt.

Features

The flag of Jordan has horizontal black, white, and green bands connected by a red chevron. On the red chevron, there is a white seven-pointed star. The star represents the unity of the Arab people, and its seven points stand for the seven verses of Al-Fatiha.
